FAQ

About EMF and RF Meters

What is an EMF meter, and how does it work?

An EMF meter measures electromagnetic fields (EMF) in your environment. These devices detect and quantify electric, magnetic, or radiofrequency radiation levels to help identify potential sources of exposure.

What is the difference between an EMF meter and an RF meter?

An EMF meter typically measures electric and magnetic fields, while an RF meter specifically detects radiofrequency radiation, such as signals from Wi-Fi, cell towers, and Bluetooth devices. However, RF meters are sometimes broadly referred to as "EMF meters," as they measure a subset of electromagnetic fields.

What is the difference between an EMF detector and an EMF meter?

An EMF detector is a simpler device that primarily alerts you to the presence of electromagnetic fields, often without providing precise measurements. An EMF meter, on the other hand, is a more advanced tool that quantifies the intensity of EMF or RF radiation in specific units, such as milligauss (mG) or microwatts per square meter (µW/m²).

How accurate are your meters?

We carefully select meters that meet high standards for accuracy and reliability. Each product's specifications provide detailed information about its precision and range.

Do I need a professional-grade meter for home use?

Not necessarily. For basic assessments, an entry-level meter is often sufficient. However, if you need detailed or advanced measurements, you may benefit from a professional-grade meter.

Choosing the Right Product

Which meter is best for detecting Wi-Fi or cell tower radiation?

For detecting Wi-Fi and cell tower signals, we recommend an RF meter. These devices are specifically designed to measure high-frequency radiation.

How do I choose the correct meter for my needs?

It depends on the source you wish to measure:

  • EMF Meters: Best for detecting electric and magnetic fields, such as those from power lines, electrical wiring, or appliances.
  • RF Meters: Ideal for measuring radiofrequency fields from Wi-Fi routers, cell towers, Bluetooth devices, and other high-frequency sources. If you’re unsure, feel free to contact us for recommendations based on your specific needs.
Do your meters require calibration?

Most of our meters are pre-calibrated at the factory and ready to use out of the box. If recalibration is needed, the product manual will include details.

Using EMF and RF Meters

How do I use an EMF or RF meter?

To use a meter, turn it on and move it around your space to identify sources of radiation. Be sure to choose the correct type of meter (EMF or RF) based on the specific field you want to measure. Follow the product manual for detailed instructions.

What do the readings mean?

Readings indicate the strength of EMF or RF radiation in specific units, such as milligauss (mG), volts per meter (V/m), or microwatts per square meter (µW/m²). Reference safety guidelines to understand exposure levels.

Can I use these meters outdoors?

Yes, many meters are portable and can be used outdoors to measure EMF levels around power lines, cell towers, or other outdoor sources. Check the product description for weather resistance.

What is the best way to reduce EMF exposure?

Start by identifying high EMF or RF sources using the appropriate meter. Once identified, you can reduce exposure by minimizing device usage, increasing distance, or shielding certain areas. (Stay tuned as we expand our product offerings to include shielding solutions.)
